This looks like a clone of the popular selfie sharing app BeReal. Instagram has confirmed the testing of the new photo centric feature named Candid Challenges. It was app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi who uncovered Candid Challenges. This feature promotes sharing selfies.
Users are encouraged to take and share selfies every day at a random time. The salient feature is that it exclusively uses Instagram’s dual camera capability. This captures a photo with the front and rear lenses at the same time. The popular selfie app BeReal is built around combining random photos and dual camera mode. The idea of this app is to create an authentic snapshot of where the users are and what they are doing at the given point of time.
This is why the named of the app is coined as “Be Real”. This super hit app was launched in 2019. It hit the number one position in Apple’s App Store in July 2019. Be Real was downloaded over 28 million times. With active users of 21.6 million, around 2093 million access this app daily. Because of the immense popularity of this app many other applications are trying to imitate its features. So is Candid Challenges. Instagram confirms to Engadget that this is in its testing as an “internal prototype”.
