Ola S1 electric scooters are now significantly less expensive

Ola Electric, the top producer of electric two-wheelers in the nation, has reduced the cost of its S1 electric scooter range by as much as Rs 25,000. S1 X+, S1 Air, and S1 Pro are available from the company. The price reduction follows the global market’s softening of battery cell prices. About 40% of the price of an electric vehicle (EV) is related to the battery.

Industry analysts told India Today that future price reductions for battery cells could result in further price reductions for electric vehicles.Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Ola Electric, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, “You asked, we delivered! Starting today, we are offering all of you a price reduction of up to Rs 25,000 for the month of February! Taking down every obstacle to #EndICEage.”

Ola S1 X+

The S1 X 4kWh weighs 112 kg, which is 4 kg more than the S1 X with a 3kWh lithium-ion battery, despite sharing the same Gen 2 EV platform as other S1 X variants. The fastest speed is ninety km/h, and it takes 3.3 seconds to go from zero to forty km/h. It takes six hours and thirty minutes to fully charge the scooter. There are three riding modes available: Sports, Normal, and Eco.

Regarding the remaining three, the IDC claims that the S1 X+ and S1 X 3kWh can travel 151 km and 143 km, respectively, on a single charge. The entry-level S1 X, on the other hand, has a 2kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can go 95 kilometres on a single charge, according to IDC.

The S1 Air, which was introduced the previous year, has a 3.0kWh battery pack and an 8.04bhp electric motor. Situated amidst the S1 X and S1 Pro, the Air is purported to have a 151-kilometer range on a single charge, a maximum velocity of 90 km/h, and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.3 seconds.The S1 Air’s hardware includes steel wheels, drum brakes, a telescopic front fork, and double shock absorbers at the back. Among its features are three ride modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport), remote boot lock/unlock, a 7.0-inch touchscreen interface unit, and GPS and smartphone connectivity.

Ola S1 Pro

The Ola S1 Pro Gen2 has a top speed of 120 km/h and a range of 180 km thanks to a 15 bhp motor and 4kWh battery. In 2.6 seconds, the S1 Air Pro Gen 2 can go from 0 to 40 km/h, which is 0.3 seconds faster than Pro Gen1. It takes six and a half hours for the battery to recharge from 0% to 100%, according to Ola. Sheet metal is used for the chassis, and the single-tube units have been replaced with telescopic front forks. It also comes with a new swingarm.

Data from the trade association Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) shows that Ola Electric’s retail sales rose 75.73% to 32,252 units in January 2024 from 18,353 units in the same month the previous year. In December 2023, the company sold 30,263 units.

Potential purchasers reportedly received alluring financing options as well, such as a tempting 7.99% interest rate, no cost EMI, no down payment, and no processing fees. The goal of these programmes was to increase consumer appeal and financial viability of the switch to electric vehicles.

Sales of electric two-wheelers across the board increased by 26.14% to 81,608 units in January 2024 from 64,694 units in the same month the previous year. In December 2023, there were 75,522 units sold at retail.Tata Motors recently slashed the price of the Nexon.ev and Tiago.ev by up to Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 70,000, respectively, in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment. Earlier this month, MG Motor India also reduced the cost of the ZS EV and the Comet EV.

In addition, Ola Electric extended the warranty on the battery pack of the S1 Air and S1 Pro scooters to 8 years and 80,000 kilometres. Customers can choose to pay an extra ₹5,000 for a one lakh km warranty, or ₹12,500 for a 1.25 lakh km warranty.Apart from the changes in pricing, the company also unveiled MoveOS 4, its most recent software version that improves user experience overall. MoveOS 4 adds a number of security features, including hill hold, hill descent control, and tamper alert.

Garage mode, quicker hypercharging, better regeneration, profile controls, Care Mood, Concert mode, longer range, and enhanced proximity unlock are some of the other noteworthy updates. Users will be able to access data on average speed, battery usage, range, regeneration, efficiency, money saved, and distance travelled through a new feature called Ride Journal.

In other news, Ola has free of charge added an 8-year battery warranty to its S1 lineup. This 8-year/80,000km warranty offers 100% defect/failure coverage, hassle-free battery replacement, and transferable ownership. Consumers may elect to pay an additional Rs 4,999 or Rs 12,999 to extend the warranty to 1,00,000 or 1,25,000 kilometres, respectively.

The company unveiled the Roadster, Adventure, Cruiser, and Diamondhead models; however, the precise release sequence is still unknown.
